The Company’s portfolio includes high quality alkali metal assets in Canada and WA, plus strategically located cobalt, gold and nickel projects in mining regions of Western Australia.
Pioneer has expanded its gold and nickel assets with five strong Lithium Projects; the advanced Mavis and Raleigh Lithium Projects in Ontario Canada, and the prospective West Australian Donnelly, Pioneer Dome and Phillips River Lithium Projects. Recent drilling at Pioneer Dome has identified both high grade Lithium and Caesium. The high grade Caesium prospect has been named Sinclair Zone, and the Mine planning and permitting is ongoing with view of mining in 2018.
Lithium has been classed as a ‘critical metal’ meaning it has a number of important uses across various parts of the modern, globalised economy including communication, electronic, digital, mobile and battery technologies; and transportation, particularly aerospace and automotive emissions reduction. Critical metals seem likely to play an important role in the nascent green economy, particularly solar and wind power; electric vehicle and rechargeable batteries; and energy-efficient lighting.
The Kangan Gold and Lithium Project in the western Pilbara is prospective for sediment/conglomerate-hosted gold as evidenced by rock chips of up to 2.73 g/t gold from previous exploration. Our Acra joint venture partner Northern Star Resources Limited (ASX:NST) continues to explore Pioneer’s Acra project in the Eastern Goldfields.
Pioneer has several Nickel/Cobalt and Base Metal projects in highly prospective regions. Current focus is on Golden Ridge Cobalt and Nickel Project (including the Blair Nickel Mine) near Kambalda within Western Australia and the Fairwater Nickel Project in the Albany Fraser Orogen.
